i got the idea for this series riding the train home one day. the el plays such a vital role in our chicago identity... and the brown line is my line, through and through.
for this first installment, i rode the entire length of the brown line in one day, getting off at every stop, snapping a few pictures, then jumping back on the next train. i went through seven rolls of 120 film, averaging two shots per stop. you may notice the horizontal lines across these photos, which were caused by several small unexpected burrs on the interior of the camera (i was using a plastic diana f+ medium format with a 55mm lens) that created long scratches along the full length of the negative. not quite what i wanted, but i think the effect has some charm to it... not that i want it to happen again.
i plan on this will be an ever-expanding series, playing with different cameras, formats, techniques, and through different seasons. keep an eye out for updates.
cheers!
